Looking for an opportunity for your baalak to represent and take part in a variety of activities that pushes and teaches a range of skills? Then Shishu Shibir is the place for your baalak to really grow this summer! This opportunity not only builds independence but creates lifetime friendships and memories. Baalako will have have a chance to take part in a series of fun challenges and unique activities alongside camping in a tent and being immersed in other camp-like experiences. 

Participants must currently be in academic Years 2 - 5.

This weekend is a once in a lifetime opportunity and is guaranteed to be the highlight of your baalak’s year at Shishukunj!

Key information

Baalako should be dropped off and collected at Roe Green Park on Kingsbury Road. They will be transported to the site on coaches.

Baalako will sleep in tents, accompanied by adult volunteers.

All meals and snacks will be provided (see below).

Toilets at the site are indoor flush toilets in private, lockable cubicles.

All medication to be labelled in a plastic wallet to give to First Aiders upon arrival to Roe Green.

Kit List - to be packed

All items must be named.

All items (except the sleeping bag & mat) should fit within one small/medium sports bag. Baalako must be able to carry their own luggage.

  • Sleeping bag, pillow and camping mat 
  • 2 sets of Shishukunj uniform (white t-shirt, navy shorts (knee length))
  • 2 pairs of trainers (the spare pair can be plimsolls/sports shoes)
  • Night clothing (thick and warm)
  • Underclothing for 2 days
  • Hand/face towel
  • Rubber/waterproof slippers (for showers & indoor use)
  • Wet wipes
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb
  • Plate, bowl, spoon, fork, knife, mug/plastic glass (reusable, not disposal; not steel)
  • Carrier bags (for laundry, dirty shoes, miscellaneous items)
  • Torch and batteries
  • Notebook and pencil/pen
  • Watch
  • Sunscreen and hat

Forbidden Items

Any forbidden or inappropriate items found will confiscated and returned to the shibiri/their parents at pick-up.

  • Mobile phones
  • Handheld electronic devices, including games and audio/music devices
  • Toys and playing items
  • Jewellery
  • Make Up
  • Aerosol cans
  • Sharp items e.g. knives, razors, scissors
  • Matches and lighters
  • Food, including sweets, chocolates, chewing gum
  • Money

Rules & Regulations of the Shibir

  • No Shibiri (all attendees, including baalako and 18+) may leave the Shibir site at any time without permission of the Karyavahi Samiti.
  • Shibiris must follow all instructions given by a senior (18+ volunteer) or activity leader. Shibiris must speak to the senior, activity leader or the Karya Nayak if they feel they cannot do this.
  • All Shibiris must treat others (including other shibiris, seniors and members of the public) fairly, respectfully and with care at all times. 
  • The use of offensive language is strictly forbidden.
  • Shibiris will be held responsible for any wilful damage to the site or to Shishukunj property.
  • Only food served on the weekend will be consumed. All food will be vegetarian. No dietary requests other than those for religious, lifestyle or medical reasons will be accommodated. Such requests must be included in writing in the registration form by the parent/guardian.
  • No other items, other than those on the list above, may be brought on the weekend. Any forbidden or inappropriate items found will confiscated and returned to the shibiri/their parents at pick-up
  • Shishukunj will not be held liable for personal injury, damage or loss of personal belongings.
  • All personal medication must be given to the First Aiders on arrival at the Roe Green Park meeting point. It must be clearly labelled with your baalak's name and date of birth.

Food:

  • Shishukunj will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner; mid-morning and mid-afternoon fruit snacks; and cocoa or milk and biscuits before bed.
  • All food will be vegetarian and free from eggs and nuts.
  • Shishukunj will accommodate dietary requirements for medical, religious or lifestyle reasons. Shibiris should be aware of their own dietary requirements and inform the servers at every meal
  • Baalako will be encouraged to eat balanced meals, including salads, vegetables/shaak, bread, and to eat adequate portions.

Hygiene & sanitation:

  • Shibiris will be asked to wash or sanitise their hands before all meals and snacks
  • All food will be prepared in strict accordance with government guidelines for food safety and kitchen hygiene
  • Toilets are indoor flush toilets in private, lockable cubicles with toilet paper.
